Oh Canada! Gathering Darkness is Finally Here!

As of today, I'm thrilled to announce that Gathering Darkness is now available on the Kobo bookstore ... again.

What's going on? I've published the book directly with Kobo's new "Writing Life" service.

Currently, the version that has been available on Kobo was pushed through from Smashwords, which is great - but has two limitations.

First, I would only see purchases through Kobo when the site reports back to Smashwords. This doesn't happen weekly, and it doesn't look like it happens monthly, either. So I have no idea how the book is doing on Kobo. (Could be zero sales... but I'd like to not think about that right now, thank you!)

Don't get me wrong, I really like Smashwords, and the two ebooks I've listed with them have done really well. Eight Days of Madness is up to over 500 downloads, for example.

But, the fact remains that, if I do get sales through any of the channels serviced by Smashwords, I still get the royalties in the form of a US cheque, once I hit a certain threshold (credit to Smashwords - they have a really low threshold.) This also means that I have to jump through hoops with the IRS to make sure that the site doesn't withhold a sizeable percentage in taxes. With Kobo Writing life, I get royalties in Canadian funds by electronic transfer.

I've de-listed the Smashword version at Kobo, but it will take a week or so for this change to take effect. In the meantime, if you're interested, look for the version you see in the screenshot above. (And if you think the cover is hideous, would you consider taking my "cover poll" on my Facebook page?)

So today, hooray for Kobo!
