Hey... What's Up?

So, did I mention I recently published a...

Nah. Just kidding.

Time out.

In the past little while I've somehow crossed over into that saturation point, where I've been more about promotion than anything else. I can tell, because I'm starting to annoy myself. (And I have a HIGH threshold for self-annoyance.)

I'm not giving up trying to get book sales, but there is a distinct lack of balance happening, and I want that back. Also - many thanks are in order for those superb individuals who took time to send a review my way.

Excited as I am by my recent venture, I'm also aware that doing the rounds of promotion, and striving ever to come up with the next way to increase sales, that I've not been around visiting my friends' sites, or being quite as neighbourly as I could be.

The other thing that's been lagging has been the actual writing and that's just not good. For the past 6 six weeks, I've been involved in a writer's shootout, that has produced three new 5,000 word pieces, but for each of these, I've taken the following week off, and I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be with my novel at this time.  I ...

Wait a second, I'm doing it again. Me, me, me.

How about you? What's going on out there?

Do me a favour - let me know what you've been up to in the comments below, and I'll spend some Twitterbook-ing time trying to throw a little buzz your way.

Keep writing!

Gathering Darkness' New Look

Okay, note to self - on the next book, cover experimentation should fall well BEFORE publication.

Thanks for everyone's patience as I've been going through a round-robin of different images for my book.

I really did like the original cover, but the black-on-black of the demon-things just didn't show up in the many Ebook stores where it's listed. Instead, all it showed was white text on black background. The new version above, in addition to being more colourful, really speaks, in my opinion, to the theme of the book. (There is all KINDS of darkness being gathered here...)

Hope you like it!

Oh Canada! Gathering Darkness is Finally Here!

As of today, I'm thrilled to announce that Gathering Darkness is now available on the Kobo bookstore ... again.

What's going on? I've published the book directly with Kobo's new "Writing Life" service.

Currently, the version that has been available on Kobo was pushed through from Smashwords, which is great - but has two limitations.

First, I would only see purchases through Kobo when the site reports back to Smashwords. This doesn't happen weekly, and it doesn't look like it happens monthly, either. So I have no idea how the book is doing on Kobo. (Could be zero sales... but I'd like to not think about that right now, thank you!)

Don't get me wrong, I really like Smashwords, and the two ebooks I've listed with them have done really well. Eight Days of Madness is up to over 500 downloads, for example.

But, the fact remains that, if I do get sales through any of the channels serviced by Smashwords, I still get the royalties in the form of a US cheque, once I hit a certain threshold (credit to Smashwords - they have a really low threshold.) This also means that I have to jump through hoops with the IRS to make sure that the site doesn't withhold a sizeable percentage in taxes. With Kobo Writing life, I get royalties in Canadian funds by electronic transfer.

I've de-listed the Smashword version at Kobo, but it will take a week or so for this change to take effect. In the meantime, if you're interested, look for the version you see in the screenshot above. (And if you think the cover is hideous, would you consider taking my "cover poll" on my Facebook page?)

So today, hooray for Kobo!
